Guerrilla Aid is a concept that Bart Barton founded GLOBAL COLORS after spending the greater part of a decade living and traveling around the world - wanting to build an organization that focussed on creating grassroots aid based on the skills of those who need the help. He has led projects on five (soon to be seven) continents, created the GC Sponsorship Program, and founded the My World Wish Campaign - all of which have developed his "Guerrilla Aid" style of volunteerism.

Global Colors is the representation of his dream - creating a way to empower individuals and organizations to become personally responsible and emotionally invested in our global family. He believes strongly in the approach of "just go in and get something done" to solve problems around the world, as too much aid gets lost in bureaucracy and behind red tape.

This weeks tip was on Massage. Make sure you book with a licensed massage therapist. Upon arriving at your appointment, make sure they give you a client history profile to fill out with and specific needs you make have, like: if you have had any accidents or injuries that the therapist should be aware of, also if you are allergic to any essential oils that maybe in their lotions or massage oil. Get undressed as far as you feel comfortable, make sure you communicate with your therapist to optimize your massage experience. Your body should only be exposed when they are working on that specific area. If you ever feel uncomfortable, talk to your massage therapist, if the problems are not adjusted, speak to the spa manager. Massage is therapeutic and should never be confused with sexual.

Using a State-of-the-art application technique, one lash at a time is applied onto the existing lash. Eyelash extensions transforms your natural lashes into lush, beautiful, longer lashes. Our lashes are for professional application only and the entire procedure is very comfortable and relaxing. Best of all our lashes are weightless and you feel nothing on your own eyelashes. They're water-proof and you can shower, exercise and even sleep with them on! Eyelash extensions provides breakthrough lash technology with incredible staying power that will last up to 2 months. All lash extensions are semi-permanent, lasting several weeks, and must be gently cared for.

*AVOID OIL-BASED CLEANSERS, LOTION OR EYE MAKEUP REMOVERS.
These products will dissolve the eyelash bonding agent. Instead, use plain water or water-based gel cleansers. You may wish to use a Q-tip to gently remove eye makeup around the lash line.

*DO NOT USE WATERPROOF MASCARA.
The ingredients in this type of mascara will dissolve the bonding agent and your lashes will fall off.

*IF YOU FEEL YOU MUST WEAR MASCARA... apply only a "water-based" mascara on your lash tips, not at the base of your lashes. Application at the lash base may break the lash and/or create a clump of mascara in your lash line. We recommend using a water-based mascaras if necessarily needed to be applied.

Again, most women do not feel the need to apply any mascara at all. If you accidentally drop some powder on your lashes, simply remove with a Q-tip moistened in plain water in order for your dark lashes to reappear again.

*AVOID USING A MECHANICAL EYELASH CURLER.
Instead, use a heated eyelash curler sparingly. Prolonged heat to the lashes may cause them to come loose.

*SCHEDULE A "TOUCH-UP" PROCEDURE IN 2-4 WEEKS.
"Touch-ups" or "fills" are highly recommended in order to maintain a full, lush lash line. They take less time than an initial application and are at a reduced price.

Danagail Elzy was on her way to a new life in Biloxi, Mississippi when Hurricane Katrina hit. She moved back to southern Utah to build her dream in St. George. Her friend Traci Heaton was selling her home in Florida to move to southern Utah and join in the dream. In the spring of 2006, Danagail began writing their business plan - that of a beautiful serene day spa in which customers could relax while getting their hair and nails done, receive facials and massage, and purchase personal care products.

Danagail worked continually during the summer and added details to her plan One of her goals was to fill up the 16 available booth spaces in the spa. She, herself is a nail technician, and her business partner Traci is going to school to be a licensed Esthetician. They approached a bank and were approved for a loan to fund their dream. Meanwhile, Danagail and Traci put in significant sweat equity at the Tonaquint location. They even put the stain on the trendy concrete floor.

The Getaway Salon and Spa opened in December 2006. Located in the new Tonaquint shopping center, the spa will serve not only the upscale residents that live in the area, but those employed in the new business and technology parks located nearby. Decorated in warm, earthy tones, the spa has a series of niches where hair and nail stations are located, enhancing the feeling of intimacy, serenity and relaxation. The gurgle and rippling water feature in the center of the spa adds to the ambiance.

Original financial projections for the Getaway showed the spa gradually ramping up its numbers of technicians renting the booth space. But the facility was rented almost from the beginning. One reason for renter excitement was the advanced e-mail booking system. While most beauty shops in the area still employ the old fashioned call and reserve system, Getaway clients can make their appointments online day or night. Some of the best hair, nail, massage technicians and estheticians in the area recognized the value of beautiful surroundings and professional systems.

Danagail and Traci acknowledge the efforts of the Dixie Business Alliance Small Business Development Center in helping the day spa dream come to pass.
